The John Grady Society is more an idea than a group of people…
An idea that has, at its core, the intent to incentivize corporate giving focused on 501c3 non-profits in Downeast Maine and Maritime Canada.
A participating corporation will receive museum quality art from the John Grady Society at no cost. The John Grady Society will choose both the eligible 501c3 non-profit, and the amount of the bequest. The gift goes directly from the participating corporation to the chosen 501c3. It does not go through the John Grady Society. There is no mechanism whereby the John Grady Society benefits by percentage or gift. The participating corporation retains all tax benefits applicable to their giving. No one attached to the John Grady Society, not the artist, nor the volunteer administrator, or facilitator will ever be paid, hence the initialism N.F.P.G. (Not For Personal Gain).
Although there are any number of areas of need in any geographical locale, the John Grady Society will focus on four areas of interest we know to have been championed by our namesake, John Grady. First, the preservation of the printed word, in lending libraries, restoration and print workshops, and non profit bookstores. Second, the preservation of historical buildings and historical societies. Third, the preservation of First Nation culture in art, story, dance and ritual. Fourth, the preservation of nature and the environment.
To this end, what is offered is a collection of ten carved and scrimshandered chambered nautilus shells, given by “Scrimshander Down East” as shown on this site. These pieces can not and will not be sold. It is offered one piece at a time, or the whole collection at once for the sole purpose of incentivizing corporate giving to 501c3 non profits as described above. Interested corporations or foundations should please contact us via email.
